Aptis Listening practice, with answers

Aptis Listening has 4 parts and lasts 40 minutes. The detail that catches people out is that in some parts you only hear the recording once, so practising with the real timing matters more than listening to podcasts.

The 4 parts, and what each one asks

Part 1: played twice. Part 2: played twice. Part 3: played once. Part 4: played once. The parts get harder as they go, and the last ones are where the recording is not repeated.

The mistake that costs most marks

Waiting to understand everything. Aptis Listening asks for one specific piece of information at a time, and the recording keeps going whether you got it or not. Read the question before the audio starts and listen only for that. People who try to follow the whole conversation lose the next question while they are still thinking about the last one.

    Accents

The recordings are not all standard British English. You will hear different speakers and different speeds, which is deliberate: the exam is testing whether you can follow real speech, not a textbook recording. Practising with only one accent is what makes exam day feel harder than practice.

    What score you need

On the Aptis General, 34 out of 50 in Listening is the cut for B2. Knowing the number turns a vague goal into something you can check after every practice test.

    Questions people ask

How many times can I listen to each Aptis recording?
It depends on the part. Some parts play the audio twice and others only once, which is exactly why practising in the real format matters.
How long is the Aptis Listening test?
40 minutes on the Aptis General, with 4 parts.
Do you have Aptis listening practice tests with answers?
Yes. Every exercise is scored automatically and shows you which option was right and why, so you can see the pattern in what you are getting wrong.
What score do I need in Listening for B2?
34 out of 50 on the Aptis General. Each skill has its own cut, so a good Listening score does not compensate for a low Writing one.
